About the Character:
1) Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863 in Calcutta in a Kayastha family.
2) His father Viswanath Dutta was a famous lawyer in Calcutta High Court who left his home and followed the path of spirituality at the age of 25.
3) Narendra was an average student but a good orator in his educational life.
4) Once he lost his belief on God because of unemployment after graduation and often said God doesn’t exist.
5) His inaugural speech in the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago with the words “Sisters and Brothers of America” was admired by a standing ovation.
6) The theme of Vivekananda's speech on the world forum was on the universality and harmony of the world religions.
7) Vivekananda appealed his disciples and followers of Ramakrishna to devote themselves to social service and helping the underprivileged to gain knowledge.
8) In 1897, he returned to India and received a warm and enthusiastic welcome as he became a well-known personality.
9) Vivekananda reflected India’s spiritual heritage in his speeches and criticized the degradation of India’s status, due to the caste system, lack of education, suppression of women and failure of old traditions.
10) At an early age, he left this world at the age of 39 on the 4th of July 1902.
