About Ilamma:
Chityala Ailamma, Chakali Ailamma (1919–1985) was an Indian revolutionary leader during the Telangana Rebellion.Her act of defiance against Zamindar Ramachandra Reddy, known as Visnoor Deshmukh, to cultivate her land became an inspiration for many during the rebellion against the feudal lords of the Telangana region.
Chityala Ailamma was an activist and joined the Andhra Mahasabha as well as the Communist Party. She worked actively against the Nizam government and her house was the center for activities conducted against the feudal land lords who collaborated with the Nizam.
Chityala Ailamma was married to Chityala Narsaiah and had four sons and one daughter.
About Onake Obava:
When Madakari Nayaka ruled Chitradurga in the 18th century, he had placed a guard at the watchtower in the rocky fort of Chitradurga. That guards name was Kahale Mudda Hanuma and his wifes name was Obavva.
Hyder Ali wanted to conquer that fort and discovered a secret passage so he sent his soldiers. During noon, Obavva, as usual called her husband for lunch. While eating, the man coveted water so his wife went out to fetch some water when she noticed some suspicious movement below the rocks. A closer look and she found Hyder Ali's soldiers ready to attack the fort!! She had to act immediately, but her husband was having lunch and she detested disturbing him during his meal. So she made a decision.
She took a pestle (called Onake in Kannada) and rushed out. One by one, she attacked the soldiers as they entered the fort, by hitting each entering soldier on his head instantly killing him! As she killed each one, she moved away the corpse so as to prevent suspicion admist the army.
Hanuma, meanwhile, completed his meal and came out looking for his wife and was shocked to see her holding a blood stained pestle hitting the head of some soldiers entering the fort, and a pile of corpses nearby!
She told him that Hyder Ali's army has attached the fort. So he went and alerted his
army. They were successful in driving away the enemy soldiers. However, Obavva was killed by one of the enemy soldiers.
Obavva is called Onake Obavva because of her courageous effort and might.
In his second attempt, Hyder Ali conquered the Chitradurga fort.
So this is the tale of the mighty warrior woman, Onake Obavva!
